Founded in 1977 by Al Caputo, whose innovations include one of the first AN61 heat-release fabrics (now used by over 50 commercial carriers), Tapis has pioneered special processes to align our fabrics with stringent aeronautic specifications. Tapis has led the way in applying new creative techniques to our fabrics, including embroidery, appliqué and screen prints. In fact, Tapis was one of the first companies to provide qualified soft furnishing for OSU vertical application to the commercial aviation market in 1986.

Today, Tapis continues to lead the industry under the direction of Al’s daughter and President of Tapis, Karen Caputo, and his son Bob. Headquartered in Armonk, New York, Tapis also has facilities in Dallas and Houston. Our distribution network spans the globe, with clientele ranging from prestigious airlines to crowned heads of state.
